Jeremy Heigh - Principal Economist, Sift

Jeremy is hired by SMEs, multi-national corporations, and governments to help define investment opportunities, identify new markets, and develop strategies. His practice includes technology commercialization, competitive intelligence, quantitative foresight, economic analysis, and strategic development.

He has an MSc in environmental economics and a broad range of experience in international negotiations, national policy design, corporate strategy, venture investment, and startups.

After receiving his graduate training in environmental economics from the University of Guelph in 2001, Jeremy joined Intercambio Ltd. to focus on technological innovation and competitive analysis. In 2002, he moved to Ottawa, Ontario to serve in the federal government – starting in environmental economic analysis and eventually moving over to represent Canada at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (Paris, France). In 2005, he moved to Edmonton, Alberta to join a private venture capital firm and be closer to his family. In 2007 Jeremy moved into the full-time role as principal economist for Sift.

Jeremy has written extensively on innovation, alternative strategy development, and economic valuation of environmental resources with published articles in academic journals, national newspapers, and on-line. Since 2004, he has published a website on foresight, innovation, and strategy.

Jeremy lives with his wife and two sons in Leduc, Alberta. Beyond his professional roles he enjoys philosophy, biomimicry, graffiti, scotch, science fiction, movies, and modern architecture.
